Family statement,
It is with deep sadness that Silcock Leisure Group announce the death of their Chairman, Herbert Silcock Snr. Herbert passed away peacefully at home after a short illness on 20th January 2021 with his loving family around him.
Herbert first came to Southport in 1959 when he bought his Swirl of Life ride to Pleasureland and over the following years the family settled in Southport. As a family they helped bring the Fairground atmosphere of music and flashing lights to Pleasureland with some of the best loved rides such as The Dodgems, Whirlaround, Ski Jump, Speedway, Paratrooper, Mini Train and many many more.
In the late 70s the family then diversified by opening the Carousel Amusements & Pool Room in Coronation Walk and then further expanded with Funland at Southport Pier, several amusements in Nevill Street and with the Fun Palace & Carousel Amusements on Blackpool’s Golden Mile. Herbert Snr also bought his Carousel Ride to Southport Pier where it has become an iconic attraction and loved by generations of families. He also raised money for local charities with his beloved Fairground Gavioli Organs.
Aged 94 he was a devoted husband to his late wife Jane and loving father to Herbert, Pauline and Mark, proud Grandfather to Natalie, Serena, Nicola, Taryn, Caroline, Charlotte and Emma. Great Grandfather to Jameson, Herbie, Scarlett, Remi, Gigi and Marcus and a special father-in law to Elizabeth, Carol & Brian.
Goodbye to a well liked and respected man about town, they should rename Neville St to Silcock St. Put the token in the slot, press the pedal down and go one way round for one last ride and may you rest in peace.

A well known local guy who earned and gained the highest respect from all who knew him. God Bless.
